Dani Panullo recoge en Little Street Pieces algunas de sus piezas favoritas pertenecientes a espectáculos anteriores, sin conexión entre ellas, pero que quieren volver al lugar de donde vino la inspiración: la calle. Quizás sea ese el motivo de la frialdad: falta complicidad y contacto entre los bailarines.Sus excelentes artistas vienen de varias disciplinas —break-dance, gimnasia rítmica, danza contemporánea etc.— y, cuando Panullo consigue coordinar todo eso, sus "miniaturas" quedan muy logradas. Pero para mí es igual de aburrido un b-boy haciendo malabarismos sobre un codo que una contorsionista chinita del circo, por no hablar del típico semicírculo de break con bailarín o bailarina en el centro (por supuesto, todo es cuestión de gustos: ¡¡a mi hijo de trece y a sus amigos solo les gustó el break!!).
Una de las piezas que mas me gustó fue La procesion, alternando b-boy con hip-hop girl paseando y pavoneándose por el pequeño escenario. ¿Y qué tiene la música clásica que va tan bien con el break? Será que es fusión total, y por eso el trío (dos chicos y chica) fue tan logrado.
Con todo, fueron tres cuartos de hora muy amenos, que pasé sentada en el suelo de la plaza, una noche calurosa de julio.
Little Street Pieces is Dani Panullo´s latest show.It is a recopilation of some of his favourite pieces taken from previous works. Its a show to be danced in urban spaces, inspired by urban life. Maybe that is why it feels somewhat cold, it lacks complicity and contact between the dancers.
His outstanding dancers come from all kinds of disciplines —break, contemporary, gimnastics, butoh etc., and when Panullo manages to combine these terchniques his "little pieces" are excellent.
But for me, its as boring to watch a b-boy balancing on his elbow as it to see the poor little Chinese contortionist from the circus, not to mention the typical break semi-circle where each dancer goes into the middle to do his/her "thing". (But its all a matter of taste: my 13 year old son and his mates only liked the break.)
One of the pieces that really worked well was the one alternating b-boy with hip-hop girl, while they jerked and "froze" and twirled and turned, one after the other. And why does classical music and break combine so well? Maybe its the ultimate in fusion, and maybe thats why the trio (2 b-boys and 1h-h girl) was so good.
Even so, it was a very pleasant three quarters of an hour, sitting on the ground, a hot evening in July, in La Plaza de Colon.
